Sister Christine Patrinos, SNJM

December 29, 1955 – May 14, 2018

Very peacefully on the morning of May 14, 2018 Sister Christine Patrinos (Nahuanani) was welcomed forever into the embrace of her Dancing God on whom she had staked and given her life and love. While her 3 year battle with cancer presented her with many challenges she never let it define her. She was 62 years old and celebrated 37 years of profession as a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

Sister Chris was born in Oakland; attended Saint Felicitas Elementary School, Moreau High School and then Cal State University, East Bay. In 1978 she entered the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

She started her ministry in education teaching 7th graders at Saint Gerard Majella (Los Angeles) and Saint Bede (Hayward). After graduate study at the University of Hawaii she found her home teaching adults at Holy Names University. For 28 years, Sister Chris loved, inspired and educated students. Summers and other university holidays found Sister Chris in Hawaii doing research and renewing her spirit.

We remember and celebrate Sister Chris’ great love of her family, her deep and abiding friendships, the gracefulness and beauty of her dancing, her humor, her Hawaiian and Greek heritage, her intellect, her love of travel, good food, sci-fi and most importantly, her embracing of life to the full.

She was predeceased by her father, George Patrinos. She is survived by her mother, Helen, her brother, Stephen Patrinos (Kathy), her sister, Gina White (Randy), nieces, Athena (Ryan), Kaleo and Nami and nephew, Alika, great-niece, Serenity and great-nephew, Dustin, as well as many other relatives. Her family, countless friends, the Sisters of the Holy Names and Associates, colleagues and current and former students will miss her greatly.

Her Mass of Resurrection was on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Felicitas Church, 1662 Manor Boulevard, San Leandro, CA, 94579. Those attending were invited to wear Hawaiian attire. A reception followed in the parish hall. Her burial was at 2:15 pm on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, California. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Sister Chris Patrinos Scholarship at Holy Names University, 3500 Mountain Boulevard, Oakland, California, 94619.
