SNJMs: serving in the names of Jesus and Mary
Our mission:
The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary is an international congregation of Catholic women religious and Associates dedicated to the full development of the human person through education, social justice, contemplation, and the arts. SNJMs serve in the names of Jesus and Mary. Since our founding in Quebec in 1843, our ministries have educated and empowered people, especially women and children — and especially those most in need. Numbers: Today, some 600 SNJM Sisters and about 400 Associates — women and men who share our mission, but do not make vows — are part of the U.S.-Ontario Province, formed in 2006 by uniting the five predominantly English-speaking provinces of the Congregation. Worldwide, Sisters of the Holy Names can be found on four continents. Our ministries: Even when "glass ceilings" were the norm for women, SNJMs founded schools, established universities, provided spiritual guidance and education in the faith, and worked for peace and justice. Always, SNJMs have collaborated with people who share our Gospel values and our passion for social justice. Such ministries remain at the core of our work: they express our values in action.
