Contemplation in action

Our Foundress, Mother Marie Rose Durocher, was a contemplative in action. The fire of Mother Marie Rose that we carry gives life to our SNJM reality. In the spirit of our Constitutions, the contemplative dimension permeates and transforms our lives. It inspires and guides our action; it makes us present to God through words, persons and events; it associates us with the life of the Church and the world. Our SNJM spirituality, rooted in the Gospel and in the Names of Jesus and Mary, gives us a way to:

  • be witnesses of love and hope in a broken and changing world
  • be in relationship with the source of all Being
  • make commitments in the areas of justice and education in the faith
  • take care of Earth's resources
  • inspire our apostolic and prophetic action
  • embody the attitudes of Jesus and Mary in our time
  • call each other forth and maintain among ourselves the force of communion

Means:

  • intimacy with God in solitude and prayer
  • time for communal prayer
  • shared spiritual experiences
  • spirituality which evolves with age
  • deepened sense of our religious commitment and of our vows
  • celebration of Eucharist as the center of our lives and source of our strength

Download a reflection on contemplation in action.
The starting point: Where do you find God? Where do you find God in this place? What are the ways you seek to renew yourself? Where and when do you find moments of quiet and reflection? What are the names by which you know God?
