  • Welcome to Our New Province Leadership Team

We welcome our new Province Leadership Team of Sisters Mary Breiling, Maureen Delaney, Guadalupe Guajardo, Margaret Kennedy and Mary Rita Rohde.
  • Welcome

The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary is an international congregation of Catholic Women Religious, Associates and Lay Consecrated who are dedicated to the full development of the human person through education, social justice, contemplation, and the arts.
  • Spirituality

Our Foundress, Mother Marie Rose Durocher, was a contemplative in action. The fire of Mother Marie Rose that we carry gives life to our SNJM reality.
  • Our Ministries

We work in multiple settings for the full development of the human person. These settings include preschools, parishes, tutoring centers or graduate programs; studios, prisons, immigrant centers or clinics; leading processes that guide communities to choose a Gospel path, or directing programs that promote systemic change.
  • Support Our Mission

The legacy of faith, vision and courage of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary is enkindled in our ministries. Through your prayers or financial support, the Sisters continue the work that was begun more than 150 years ago by Blessed Marie Rose Durocher: full development of the human person through education, social justice, contemplation, and the arts.

Strawberry Day in California

Ramona - Anna Keim and Daleen Larkin - Strawberry day 2016

On May 10, 1868, six foundresses arrived in San Francisco after a long journey from Longueuil. The Sisters of Mercy welcomed them with strawberries and cream. This was a special treat for the Canadian Sisters, who were not accustomed to having strawberries so early in the year. We honor the arrival of these foundresses every year on Strawberry Day by sharing strawberries with students and colleagues.

History and Memory: Finding Inspiration in Our Chronicles

Haskins.Mary-071113By Mary Haskins, SNJM

The charism of the Sisters of the Holy Names is nurtured by the wonderful chronicles that have been preserved over many years by our Sisters. These are historic treasures, which we protect in our archives.

The value of our preserved history is that it inspires us in our ministries. In reflecting on these memories, we are called to live our charism and treasure the history of our past, as well as the future. Through “The Pilgrimage of the Heart,” we have lived and walked through this charism journey, hearing the voice of our God and Marie Rose, “I have come to cast fire upon the earth…”

Prayer to Honor the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary

One Woman's Life

All the blessings of God are seen in one woman's life.

All the blessings in this woman's life

are seen in every woman's life.

She is Mary, Woman of Nazareth, mother of Jesus.

The first red of daylight reveals her

and draws me to the depths of dawn.

The budded green branch shouts aloud her name

and promises me a time of hope and power.

The lucid stream, flowing and concealing nothing,

but adding beauty to stones in the rippling light,

calls to me to look through the ripples of life

to the clear lucidity of God's inner being.

And in that light I see Mary:

One woman.

Every woman.
