Summary of Human Trafficking Group 3 Group Conference Call

Absent: Mary Elizabeth Lagoy
Prayer: Lucinda convened the call and led the participants in a prayer to end human trafficking.
Introductions and Sharing Interest and Prior Involvement Re Trafficking Issue:
Mary Ondreyco (Watsonville, CA) - Involved in this issue from beginning of SNJM study and corporate stand, SNJM Board Member UNANIMA International, Congregational Anti-trafficking Coalition, US-Ontario 2007 Anti-Trafficking Survey, other coalitions and related activities in California and Watsonville
Lucinda Peightal (Portland, OR) - member of congregational committee for HIV/AIDs in Africa, has attended some meetings regarding human trafficking
Janet Ryan (Portland, OR) - Justice and Peace Coordinator, interest sparked as worked with women on the street in Portland and information shared by others
Susan Ward (Wilsonville, OR)-as an SNJM candidate introduced to the issue through information provided SNJM membership for reading and study
Georgia Yianakulis (Tacoma, WA) - informed by SNJM community and outside reading/viewing, as librarian at Bellarmine Prep shares information and encourages students and staff to become interested, educated and involved regarding human trafficking with limited success so far
Mary Elizabeth Lagoy (Albany NY) - shared via earlier email forwarded by Lucinda on 8/9/07 her involvement in rallies at NY Legislature, fasts and other political activities
Discussion:
Topics included were federal and state laws against human trafficking passed and not yet passed, UNANIMA's anti-demand campaign, US-Ontario 2007 Anti-Trafficking Survey which will provide direction for on-going education, desirability of working in coalition with others, resources such as : Pornography: Driving the Demand in International Sex Trafficking (see Captive Daughters web site), newspaper articles such as one coming soon in Portland newspaper re trafficking in the mid-west, materials provided by the Justice School Group organization, SNJM publications such as Voyages, IPJC materials (Some links provided below.)
Action:
Mary Ondreyco will send lists of resources for schools to Georgia and for parishes to Janet.
Janet, Lucinda and Susan will investigate what is being done and can be done at Oregon state level.
Georgia will contact Mary Annette and Denise to determine what actions their human trafficking groups are planning (neither have postings on the SNJM website), and also determine procedure for getting our notes posted.

PT, 11:00 a.m. ET ) Please check your calendar. Janet and Susan will coordinate the call. Georgia will serve as secretary.
