Settled by Dutch fur traders in 1609, Albany, New York, is one of the oldest cities in America. Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary have ministered there for more than 140 years.
Education has been a focus of SNJM endeavors. The Academy of the Holy Names in Albany serves young women of the area from pre-K through high school. Several Sisters and Associates are involved fulltime in parish and diocesan life, and several are accomplished musicians, artists, or authors. Many are involved in justice and peace issues.
The Albany Mission Centre Associates have another distinction: many of the Associates are husband-and-wife teams.
L-R: Associate Jane Pattison and Sr. Mary Elizabeth Lagoy at the Statehouse in Albany. Immigration and human trafficking issues are part of the Mission Centre's justice and peace activities.
