Notes from Conference Call HIV/AIDS group 2
Meeting opened with prayer prepared by Jean Gent.
Time for check in and updating each other. Jean's interest centers around the problem that arises in Lesotho because of their poverty and inability to access medicine and food. Jean is willing to work locally. Joan has had limited experience with people in the Dalles area and that has impacted her experience and interest. She is acquainted with a local woman who has had much experience with research and outreach through her church community. As Joan has the opportunity, she will follow up with this woman and her information.
Anne has experience with people who have AIDS and that has impacted her interest. It can be looked at two ways - the direct involvement with people as well as the fact that it is so huge an issue. Another aspect is education of ourselves. So much is out there where do we start? Kate shared the work of Sr. Pat Hunter and the soup supper at Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Burlingame, CA. Pat requested that the funds from one of the soup suppers at the parish be sent to Lesotho for the care and education of the children orphaned by AIDS. Jean asked for clarification of the purpose of the readings. The readings were suggested for our own education. Jean will contact Kate St. Martin about her work in this area. There was a question raised about the coordination between Justice and Peace Congregational Network and the implementation subcommittees of the Chapter in different areas. How can we communicate, integrate, work together and move forward in implementation? Jean had to leave the conference call because of a previous commitment. Conference call ended at 9:45 a.m. |
