A grant for "Our Place" in Spokane, Washington, will help add a laundry center for low-income people. Our Place provides  food, clothing, hygiene products, bus tokens, emergency utility assistance and gas vouchers. The center serves about 1,000 people in a month. Last year it distributed more than 175,000 pounds of food and more than 33,000 items of clothing. For a third of the clients, Social Security is the only source of income. More than 40 percent of the clients are under age 18 or at least 65. More than 65 volunteers work at the center, including a dozen Holy Names Sisters, Benediction Sisters, Sisters of Providence, and SNJM Associates. This summer will be the 20th year for Our Place.
