Notes from Conference Call HIV/AIDS group 2
April 2, 2007

Participants: Joan Flynn, Kate Ondreyco, Inez Sherwood, Anne Scott
Not present:: Roberta Lamanna, Jean Gent

We began with the prayer from the 32nd general chapter

Background: (how we arrived at this point): Anne spoke of her experience as an Associate at the 32nd general chapter. Anne was a participant at the meeting of Chapter attendees planned by the U.S.-Ontario Leadership Team. This meeting was at the end of September. This is where the plan for the small group conference calls originated around the topics of the chapter. The proposal was coordinated with Mission Centre Coordinators meeting the same weekend. Sisters and Associates were asked to volunteer/express their interest in a specific topic from the chapter. The planning team divided volunteers into the expressed interest groups. There are three HIV/AIDS groups.

Individuals:
Joan Flynn - been in the Dalles for 23 years. She is retired from the “labor force” at the local hospital - she is registered nurse. Joan lives with 3 Sisters in the convent and is the caretaker of the property, building, etc. Joan is the primary full time (24/7) caretaker for her mother. Joan has been interested in HIV since she was working in the local hospital. She has some background and limited experience with some people who have/had AIDS.

Kate Ondreyco: background is secondary education and is currently one of the development directors for the Province. Interest in HIV/AIDS has come because of her work with fundraising for Lesotho ministries as well as contact with the Sisters who have visited and spent time with the Sisters in Lesotho.

Inez Sherwood: in Watsonville. Experience is in elementary education. Currently, Inez is involved in ministry in the migrant camp in the Watsonville area. Because of her contact with Mary Ondreyco, Inez has developed an interest in HIV/AIDS in relation to the Sisters, people, and ministries in Lesotho.

Anne Scott: retired from government 5 years ago. Before her government work, Anne had been a teacher for eight years. After her retirement from the government work, she did substitute teaching and volunteer work with the courts. Anne volunteered at St. Gabriel's School in Washington, D.C. Anne had been the primary caregiver for her aging and ailing mother so her volunteer work was limited. Anne's experience at the Chapter brought “life” to the experiences of the Sisters in Lesotho. Her Associate group has been very interested in finding ways to assist and support the Sisters and the people in Lesotho. This topic holds great interest for her.

Question: Have you been a part of other groups? Response: This is the first opportunity for all of us to be part of a group with the focus on HIV/AIDS.

Information from a phone meeting of the seven Associates (who were guests at the Chapter) with Jocelyn L. and Dolores W. The Congregational Leadership Team will be meeting/conversing with the leadership and Sisters in Lesotho to focus on needs, priorities, and plans for the ministries and needs in Lesotho. The Congregational Leadership Team will be discussing all of this with the Provincial Leadership Teams at the meeting in April.

Action: we would each commit to reading the booklet, the book, the information from the National Catholic AIDS network (goals, etc.). Anne will send some questions for us to consider before our next conference call.

Anne asked three things:

1) prayer for next call - Inez
2) minutes for the next call - Kate
    3) schedule a conference call - give Anne some suggestions regarding times for the next conference call…around 9 a.m. mid-week. Question: frequency of calls. Anne will send something out regarding a phone call in 5 weeks or so.
