September 9, 1933 – July 26, 2018

After a courageous struggle with cancer, Sister Dorothy Clare (Mary Ann Hedwig Klingler) went to God the afternoon of July 26, 2018. She was 84 and celebrated 65 years of profession as a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

Sister Dorothy Clare was an elementary school educator, teaching at Saint Cecilia (San Francisco), Saint Mary (Oakland), Saint Augustine (Oakland), Saint Gregory (Los Angeles), Saint Ignatius (Sacramento), Saint Theresa (Oakland), Saint Joseph (San Francisco), Holy Spirit (Fremont), Saint Bede (Hayward), Saint Anthony (San Gabriel) and Saint Andrew (Pasadena). She was always well-prepared. She had high expectations for herself as a teacher and for her students. It was clearly evident that she loved her students and always wanted the best for them. She said she loved teaching first graders the best because it gave her an opportunity to give them a strong foundation.

After her more than 45 years teaching she became manager of Villa Holy Names and local treasurer at Convent of the Holy Names, Los Gatos. All who stayed at the Villa received Sister Dorothy Clare’s hospitality, characteristic care and thoughtfulness.
